We can't wait to host you at our NYC Flagship!

We like to think of our studio as a little hidden gem in the garment district.  Our cozy space perched above the city is set up to be a low stress environment where you have full run of the show.  We only see one bride at a time and you have a dedicated stylist who will be your point person from purchase to pickup.

Flagship gowns

Shopping for a wedding gown should be incredibly fun!
Here are a few tips to help keep it that way when visiting our studio...

We do require appointments: we only work with one bride at a time so that we can give you our undivided attention and the best service possible. You’ll have full run of the shop so you can have a relaxing and intimate experience!

All of the gowns you will be trying on are samples. Once you select your style, a new one will be made and customized just for you! Our sample gowns range in size from original runway samples of size 4s up to size 24, with the majority between size 6 and size 12. Our samples will rarely fit you perfectly, but your stylist for the appointment is also part of our design and production team, so she will walk you through exactly how each style will fit you when it is your size and correctly proportioned to your body. We are able to produce gowns up to a size 32.

It's best to limit the number of people you bring with you to one or two trusted friends/family members. Too many opinions can be overwhelming and confusing. Sometimes it is helpful to come to your first appointment solo and then bring your entourage in to view the finalists at another appointment. Our space is limited, so we don’t recommend bringing more than 4 guests. If you do require a larger party, just call ahead and let us know.

Set your budget. We certainly won't stop you from trying on any gown in our studio, but nothing's worse than falling in love with something outside your comfort zone, so we find it's best to keep budget in mind when making your selections to try on. Our gowns range from $2000-$11000 with most falling between $3500-$6500.  Don’t forget about alterations, which are typically around $850.

If you're trying on gowns for the first time ever, keep an open mind and try on an assortment of different silhouettes and styles. You might be surprised by what you respond to, and we'll make suggestions too!  Your stylist is here to listen, guide, and provide as much helpful information as possible - no pushy sales tactics here!

For the sake of our delicate, painstakingly made gowns, kindly avoid wearing heavy makeup or jewelry that could damage them during your visit.

What is the benefit of purchasing your gown directly from the Carol Hannah Flagship?

Brides who visit our studio have the advantage of shopping every gown in our current and past collections, seeing where and how they are made, and making nearly any customization they want tweak a current style or start from scratch with a custom designed gown! Our brides are also able to take advantage of buying where our gowns are made by coming in for fittings during the production process: rather than starting the alterations process after the gown is complete, we fit the base of your gown before we begin draping or adding embellishment. Instead of altering a standard sized gown to fit you, we simply build the gown around your body! This results in a better fit in the end and less alterations stress on the garment overall.

What 3 things do we want every bride to know about us as a brand?

1 - We make every gown in our NYC fashion district studio one at a time, by hand. No mass production overseas here! This lets us implement the highest quality techniques – French seams, baby seams, tiny baby hems, building our own corsets, hand draping – while allowing tons of flexibility in sizing and timing.  We can adjust our patterns for uncommon body proportions within production and we can do it fast. Need a dress in a week? Done. Need a super specific shade of blush? We can make it. Got big tatas and a tiny waist? High five, we’ve got you covered (literally).

2 - We love tweaking our styles to suit our brides. As long as it makes sense aesthetically and is on point with our brand, we’ll do it.

3 - Our aesthetic starts with the absolute best quality silk textiles you can find, many of which are woven exclusively for us at the most prestigious European mills in the industry. Our embellishments are developed from the fabric itself to create organic texture.  We build a 100% silk foundation into the interior all of our gowns. You may not see it in something like a draped gown because it is within the layers, but you can definitely feel the difference on your body and see the support it provides without being stiff and uncomfortable. Our gowns feel as good and move as well as they look.

What makes us special in this world of wedding wear?

We believe in magic. We are super passionate about dresses and keep our production more exclusive because we care about every little detail. As an independent design house, we are driven by the artistic side of fashion more than the commercial. Yes, we want to sell our dresses, but we won’t sacrifice true design and innovation just to do that. Our point of view is truly unique and we don’t try to just do our version of what’s already out there. Our customers are looking for something different and we offer that in the best quality possible.

Where are our garments produced?

In our NYC studio, by us!

What are some common customizations requested?

Most common are combining a bodice of one gown with the skirt of another, changing strapless to non-strapless (or vice versa), changing the type of sweetheart neckline, other colors, less or more volume in skirts or underskirts, or creating transitional pieces (for example, adding a dramatic over-skirt to a sleeker, sexier trumpet gown to be worn for just the ceremony).

A truly custom fitting experience:

For our direct brides, we offer custom alterations services.  Instead of making your gown and then deconstructing it for alterations, we actually build the gown on your body throughout the production process, fitting each layer before adding draping and embellishment. This results in a custom fit gown with perfect proportions without the stress of alterations on the textiles.

The best part?  You can rest easy that the style lines of your gown will be exactly as you want them and how we intend them, regardless of whether your measurements fit perfectly into our size chart or if your body changes through the process.

You should expect to have around three to four fittings and budget around $850 for this service.  Your stylist will work with you to ensure the most seamless (pun intended)  schedule and logistics according to your event plans and needs.

We often work with clients from out of town and are happy to provide more info about timing and travel.
